Hi everyone!
We got approval to transfer this morning and the transport team from Inova, who originally transported us to Children’s, came around noon and whisked Maddie back to Fairfax. We drove separately after packing up our stuff.
Before leaving we took Maddie back to the the CICU and said bye to all the nurses and doctors. They were sad to see her go, but also very happy as well.
Upon arriving at Fairfax, we found Maddie surrounded by almost the entire PICU staff. The nurses, residents, doctors, and surgeons were absolutely delighted to have her back. This group was there when Maddie went into cardiac arrest and had spent the next 24 hours stabilizing her. They had last seen her almost 30 days ago and were amazed at her improvement.
The next step in her recovery is starting to do feeding by mouth. We tried with some low fat formula (due to her lymphatic issues) and Maddie did not like it. Please pray that she will relearn how to eat after a month without oral feedings and that her body can handle the food.
We praise God for allowing us to be so close to home and are so grateful that He can cut through all the forms and red tape so easily. Thank you all for your continued prayers and uplifting messages.
We are truly blessed.
Bill, Jen, Abby and Maddie
