Maddie Update 8/4

Hi Everyone,

The speech and occupational therapists finally felt comfortable letting Maddie try pureed foods this morning.  She ate 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of apple puree beautifully!  She was tasting with her tongue and smacking her lips- I’m sure it was delicious since she hasn’t taken anything by mouth in 3 weeks!  They will continue to let her “eat” twice a day and as she progresses, they will also increase the amount and eventually let me start to feed her as well.  Although slow, it’s an exciting start!

The other big discovery today is that Maddie is starting to teethe!  One of her upper front teeth is starting to come out of her gums.  She’s been crying all day (other than during her naps) and the only thing that will calm her is chomping on her spoon or pacifier.  She’s never been a fan of pacifiers and is not sucking them, but is vigorously chewing them instead!

Below are some pictures of her eating her spoon during this afternoon’s physical therapy session:

Without the spoon and purees, this is what she looked like during therapy sessions:

And even with a big ball, she wasn’t too happy:
