Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share some positive updates so far this week 🙂
Maddie’s stridor condition improved significantly last week and I have barely heard it at all this week! This makes therapy sessions a lot less stressful (for me) and more productive overall.
Feeding is also continuing to progress! Maddie started sucking on a pacifier this past weekend (strangely enough since she never liked them before, just like her older sister), but it was enough that the speech therapists were comfortable having her try liquids. On Tuesday, they let Maddie drink water from a bottle and she drank 10ml (1/3 oz) with no issues. They had a little trouble incentivizing her but once they put a little pear purée on the bottle nipple, she immediately started to suck. Pear puree was always her favorite!! The therapists mentioned that sometimes the first time a child takes a bottle they might cough or have noisy breathing but she did neither! Yesterday, the therapist let me feed her 1 oz of baby purees and again, she ate with no problem! I will try again this afternoon and if all goes smoothly, I’ll be allowed to do feedings in the room and the goal is to get her to 3 1 oz feedings a day by the time we discharge.
