Maddie Update July 10, 2017

Maddie’s vision has progressed nicely these past few weeks!  Previously, she was using her vision maybe a few times a week, but she’s now seeing things at least once a day.  She’s still more inclined to see familiar items that are the shiny, mylar material.  However, even with new things of that material, she’s able to notice fairly quickly (see red pom pom below).  We are so thrilled at the progress so far and hope to keep moving in this direction!

Bill and Abby thought it would be fun to join Maddie in her little room, but she didn’t seem as thrilled about the idea J

In terms of physical therapy, we’ve been working a lot on self-supported sitting.  There was one morning where she was able to sit tripod for almost a minute without being supported (see below)!  As her core strengthens and her head control increases, she should be able to do this for longer periods of time!

Last week, the indoor base for the seat of Maddie’s adaptive stroller arrived!  Prior to that, we’ve only been able to put her in the adaptive stroller for walks outside (see picture below).  However, now that we have the indoor base, we’re able to move the seat back and forth from the stroller to the base and use the seat indoors.  Unfortunately, the seat itself is a good 40 lbs, but I just think of it as a nice workout!  What’s great about the seat is that it provides her with the support to keep her core/upper body straight as well as prevent her head from going to far to her preferred right side.  Previously for meals, she was in a normal high chair with a base that Bill built.  However, she was able to move quite freely and was never quite straight.  Now that she’s in the adaptive stroller seat during her meals, there’s more time where her body is forced into the proper position.

We also let Maddie explore the pool in our backyard on July 4th!  She wasn’t super excited, but she didn’t complain either (until the end…)  Her preference seemed to be just lounging in her ring…

To end, we wanted to share our Father’s Day gift for Bill.  I had a mini photoshoot with the girls to try and put this together.  The top three pictures were the “real” pictures, but there were so many cute bloopers that I had to include those too (bottom row)!  Enjoy!
